Hogyan működik?

A digitális aláírás egy nyilvános kulcsú titkosító technológiát (Public Key Infrastructure, PKI) alkalmazó kódra épül. Mint minden titkosító rendszer, ez is kulccsal működik, melynek segítségével kódolhatjuk és visszafejthetjük az információt. A különbség csupán az, hogy itt két kulcs van: egy személyes és egy nyilvános. A személyes kulcs felel meg az aláírásnak – ezt nem szabad kiadni a kezünkből -, ezzel kóduljuk a tőlünk kimenő információt. A nyilvános kulcshoz viszont bárki hozzáférhet, és ezzel fejtheti vissza az általunk titkosítva kiküldött dokumentumot, adatokat. (A titkosítás egyúttal azt is garantálja, hogy “útközben”, illetve archiválás után a tudtunk nélkül senki sem módosíthatja az elektronikus iratot.) Ahhoz, hogy az aláírás hitelessége ellenőrizhető legyen, a fogadó félnek rendelkeznie kell az aláíró fél nyilvános kulcsával, és tudnia kell, hogy ki rendelkezik a nyilvános kulcshoz tartozó magánkulccsal. A PKI technológia erre a kettős célra a tanúsítványt használja.
A hitelesítés-szolgáltató egy olyan digitális tanúsítványt állít ki, amely garantálja az aláíró személyét és az elektronikusan aláírt üzenetet, iratot oly módon, hogy összekapcsolja a magánkulcsot birtokló tulajdonos személyét és a nyilvános kulcsát. A megbízható harmadik félként szereplő hitelesítés-szolgáltató a tanúsítványt saját digitális aláírásával hitelesíti. A szolgáltató maga is rendelkezik tanúsítvánnyal, amelyet legtöbbször egy másik hitelesítés-szolgáltató ír alá. Így alakulnak ki hitelesítési láncok vagy hierarchiák.
Gyakorlati szempontból nézve mindez sokkal egyszerűbb. Az elektonikus aláírás megjelenhet például egy chipkártya formájában, amit magunkkal hordunk. Ha a számítógépünkre rácsatlakoztatunk egy kártyaolvasót, akkor ettől fogva szabadon dönthetünk róla, hogy hagyományos módon írunk e-mailt (például a barátainknak), vagy a levél küldése előtt a kártyát a leolvasóba helyezzük, és kiadjuk az utasítást a levelezőprogramunknak, hogy a kártya segítségével írja alá a levelet. Ehhez csupán egy PIN kódot kell megadnunk, mint a bankkártyáknál, és a kiküldött levél máris hivatalos okiratnak számít, amit az önkormányzat, az adóhatóság, vagy bármilyen hivatalos szervezet köteles úgy kezelni, mintha egy személyesen, papíron aláírt dokumentummal lenne dolga.
Digitális aláírás a papírnyomaton
A német secrypt hitelesítés-szolgáltatásra specializálódott fejlesztőcég bemutatta az első olyan szoftvert, amellyel elektronikus aláírással ellátott dokumentumokról jogi érvényű papírmásolat készíthető. Ehhez a teljes dokumentumot bármikor ellenőrizhető kétdimenziós vonalkódként tárolják. A digiSeal alkalmazás és egy szkenner segítségével bármikor ellenőrizhető a nyomtatott dokumentumok hitelessége. Az ígéretek szerint még a részben sérült anyagok is helyreállíthatók a digitális pecsét segítségével. (Pte)
